Pattern: Flower Crown

Im pregnant with my second daughter and her due date is right around the corner! We plan on getting her newborn pictures done and I wanted her to wear some of my own creations. I decided to make this cute flower crown for her to wear. Her big sister was happy to model it for me and I loved how it turned out! This is a great newborn photo prop because of how easy it is to put on, take off and tighten! Great pattern for someone just starting out with crochet!

Materials:

  • Sport weight yarn in 2 or more colors of your choice.
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • needle to weave in ends

Pattern:

First we will be making the headband portion. To begin:

Chain 200

Sc in 8th chain from hook (the loop for adjustable closure is made)

Sc in the following 138 Chains.

There should be 55 chains remaining, instead of continuing to crochet into these chains, branch off and Chain 55.

Tie off and weave in ends.

Flowers:

Make between 7-10 flowers depending on child’s head size.

Round 1: Magic Circle, Ch 1. Sc 5 times into magic circle. pull tight.

Round 2: Into first stitch of round 1: Sl St, Ch1, 1hdc, 1dc, 1hdc, Ch1, Sl St.

Repeat around until you have 5 petals total. Sl St into first petal. Tie off, leaving tails long enough to sew into headband.

Sew flowers to headband approximately 2inches apart. Headband is adjustable by using the flowers as a “button” for closure. (pictured below) The loop you made in the beginning is where you slip the 2 chains of 55 and however many flowers through so the fit is comfortable and secure on the child’s head. You can tighten or loosen the band by moving more or less flowers through loop.

Weave in all ends.
