I’ve been eyeing this super chunky yarn from Hobby Lobby for a loooong time. I really wanted to make a chunky crochet blanket for myself but could never get myself to buy all the yarn required. When I saw it go on sale for only 4.89 I decided to go for it! It took a total of 13 Ivory skeins and 2 grey. I know it can be difficult to force yourself to buy so much yarn at once but I promise it will be worth it! This is definitely the coziest blanket ever and the yarn is a dream to work with. SO soft!

Gauge is not important for this project.
Raise your hand if you love homespun yarn! Meee! I know a lot of my crochet friends dislike using homespun yarn because it can be a bit difficult to work with, especially if you are a beginner crocheter. I hope the Butterbeer Pullover pattern changes your mind if you are a homespun hater. 🙂 You can always substitute a different bulky yarn if you are totally against it, but I encourage you to give it a shot with homespun first!
Here are a couple of my tips on working with Lion Brand Homespun-

Keep your tension a bit loose! I know a lot of us have a habit of pulling our stitches down tight while crocheting. Don’t do this! One, it makes it harder to see the stitches and two, if you have to frog your work it will be difficult to pull out. You will also have a much harder time inserting your hook into the stitch and it may snag the yarn. So try and crochet with a nice even and “loose” tension.

Don’t rely on just your eyes for counting stitches. When you work with homespun yarn, the fluffiness of the yarn can make it difficult to see your stitches. I like to actually feel my stitches with my hands to help check my stitch count.

Start your work with a foundation row! My pullover pattern uses a foundation row for each panel. This not only gives your garment a bit more stretch and keeps the panel a uniform size but it also helps you keep your stitch count correct. When working with homespun I always find that the foundation chain and the first row gives the most trouble. It can be difficult to find where to insert your hook in the chain. If you use a foundation row it gets rid of this problem. I recommend THIS video/tutorial if you don’t already know how.

The yarn I used for this pattern is super chunky! Be sure you are using a yarn weight of at least 6. I recommend Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick if you don’t have any WAK on hand.

I was recently requested to write up a pattern for a kids fringe crop top! Even though it’s only 50 degrees out today it’s hot in other parts of the world right?! 🙂 So the fringe crop top was born! I think it’s definitely a crochet pattern staple to have when you have little ones running around. It’s super cute for photo shoots or to just wear outside during the hot summer days. I included 3 different sizes but it is VERY easy to adjust even further if you need to. To make it wider, add more chains to the starting chain. To make it longer or shorter, add or take away rows.

- Worsted (4) weight cotton yarn. 50-80 yards depending on size made. I used Paintbox cotton yarn.

Every fall my husband asks for a new beanie to wear. This year he requested one with his football teams colors! This pattern is perfect for customizing to your favorite football team colors! Sean likes his beanies slouchy and stretchy. This one is really fast to make, it’s worked in rows to form a rectangle and then sewn together at the end. You can make it as slouchy or as fitted as you want by making your starting Ch longer or shorter. It’s also really easy to customize the colors you want and add as many colors as you would like!
Materials Needed:
- Worsted Weight yarn in 3 or 4 colors.
- 6.00mm crochet hook
- Yarn Needle
Notes:
This hat is worked in rows and then sewn at the end to form the hat.
If you haven’t tried Bernat mix home yarn yet, you need to! I picked up a couple of skeins on one of my many shopping trips to Michael’s. I can’t resist when I see a new yarn! I made my pillow case big enough to fit an old 18×18 pillow. However, if you want it bigger or smaller, it’s really easy to customize by shortening or lengthening the starting chain.

I made Evie a new headband the other night using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton Yarn! It is SO soft and one of my favorite yarns to work with. I had plenty of yarn leftover so I decided to make Penelope a matching beanie to go with it! The color I chose is very springy and the light-weight cotton is perfect for the current weather! My favorite part is that I was able to make both the headband and beanie for less than one skein of yarn. Both patterns are very simple and beginner friendly.

Yay! Finally a new pattern to post! I never realized before I started designing my own crochet how much work goes into pattern writing! First there is the idea stage, then the yarn buying stage (my favorite), then the making and frogging and re-doing stage, all while scribbling notes down so I don’t forget what I did. When you finally have the finished product.. Bam!! Now you have to type up the pattern, find testers, send to testers, wait for your testers to give you feedback. Edit the pattern, take pretty pictures, post on Instagram AND still have to make a listing on Etsy. PHEW! I’m so amazed at all the support I get for my patterns and I love to be able to give back.
