Pattern: The Cross Stripe Poncho

I had so much fun designing the Cross Stripe Poncho and I hope you guys love it! I used Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn which is amazing to work with. If you haven’t tried it yet I definitely recommend giving it a go! The pattern repeat on this is super easy. If you want a longer poncho just add an extra repeat on both panels. This pattern is also very beginner friendly. You are making two big rectangles and seaming together. The hood can be easily left off if you aren’t a fan. I also love that you can pick your own color palette for the stripes to add your own unique flair! Let me know what you guys think! 🙂

If you want a PDF printable version of the pattern you can find it in my Ravelry Shop and Etsy Shop!

Repeat Rows 3-12 and all color changes three more times.

Repeat Rows 3-11 one more time.

You will have a total of 51 rows.

Tie off.

Seaming:

Place both panels together, right (outer) sides facing. Line up the first and last rows. You will be joining your panels together using your preferred way of seaming. I like to use my hook and Sl St through the outer loops only across. You can also use a yarn needle and mattress stitch. Seam stitches 1-42 of row 51 on both panels together. Repeat on opposite side. You will be leaving a hole in the middle for your head.

Trim:

Join color D at any St on the outer edge of your poncho. Work Dc evenly around the entire perimeter of your poncho. You will be making approximately 2 dc into the sides of the dc rows of your poncho and 1 dc into the sides of the Sc rows. Work 2 Dc into each of the four corners.

Pocket:

With color A

Row 1: 46 Fdc. Turn. (46 Dc)

Rows 2-4: Ch 2. 1 Dc in each St across. Turn. (46 Dc)

Row 5: Ch 2. Dc2tog. 1 Dc in each St across. Dc2tog. Turn. (44 Dc)

Row 6-11: Repeat Row 5. Decreasing 2 stitches with each row. Row 11 has 32 stitches. Turn.

Row 12: Ch 2. 1 Dc in each St across. Turn. (32 Dc)

Row 13: Repeat Row 12.

Do not turn or tie off. Sc evenly around the entire pocket, working 2 Sc into each corner and 2 Sc into the ends of the Dc rows. Tie off leaving a long tail for seaming.

Hood:

Join yarn (color A) at the front of the head opening, 2 stitches before the shoulder seam.

Row 1: Ch 2. *1 Dc in 3 stitches, 2 Dc in next.* Repeat around opening. Note- you will be working stitches into the 2 stitches that are joined at the shoulder seam on both sides. (view photos below, showing the first round complete)

Turn. (67 Dc)

Rows 2&3: Ch 2. 1 Dc in each St across. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 2. Dc2tog. 1 Dc in each St across. Dc2tog. Turn. (65 Dc)

Rows 5-7: Repeat Row 4. You will be decreasing by 2 stitches with each row. Row 7 ends with 59 Dc. Turn.

Rows 8-24: Ch 2. 1 Dc in each St across.

Seam hood-

With poncho inside out, fold the hood in half and Sl St the last row together to join. Tie off. Turn poncho correct side out.

Trim hood-

Join color A to the front left side of the hood.

Round 1: Ch 2. Work 1 Dc evenly up and around the hood. Work 1 Sc into each of the 8 stitches along the neckline. Join to first St with a Sl St.

Switch to color D

Round 2: Repeat Round 1.

Tie off.
