The day that I finished my Echoes Cardigan and tried it on, was the day that I knew I would eventually make another cardigan using Mandala yarn. The Whisper Hollow Cardigan crochet pattern came just in time for spooky season.
I know i’ve talked about being aprehensive of all the colors just “bam!” in your face with the Mandala yarn in the past. But now….now I love it! 🙂 I was so excited when I saw this color way on the Lion Brand website. I knew I had to try it. If you aren’t a fan of these colors, don’t worry, there is soooo many color options to choose from. You are bound to find one that matches your style! The Whisper Hollow Cardigan crochet pattern is a kit, and you can pick your yarn color!
The stitch combo for The Whisper Hollow Cardigan crochet pattern creates the best texture!! I had so much fun experimenting with what stitches I chose. I just love how it turned out, I hope you do too! The panels are worked from the bottom up. There is a bit of shaping in the front panels. The back is longer than the front with super cute side seams! Did you notice the hidden pockets along the seam?? My favorite part! If you prefer it without pockets, it’s super easy to skip!
The Whisper Hollow Cardigan crochet pattern is duster length. If you are extra petite you may need to make adjustments in the length. Don’t worry, it’s super easy to do! You can remove as many rows as needed in multiples of 4 to shorten the length. To make any adjustments, remove or add rows to the back panel before fastening off. Remove or add the same amount of rows to the front panels before the shaping begins. You can also add or remove rows to the sleeves before fastening off.
Meet the Whisper Hollow Cardigan, a long, duster-style cardigan with a flowing silhouette. It features a longer back hem, side slits, long sleeves, and hidden inset pockets, making it both cozy and practical. Made with Mandala yarn, every Whisper Hollow Cardigan will have its own unique color variation as the yarn works up, so no two cardigans will look exactly alike. A video tutorial is also included to guide you through the construction and techniques.
To make a gauge swatch follow the pocket panel instructions. Your panel is larger than the required gauge. Measure within the swatch (rows 2-9) to check gauge.
This is a duster length cardigan. If you are very petite or very tall you may need to adjust the length. You can easily do this by adding or removing rows in multiples of 4 on the back panel before fastening off. Add or remove the same amount of rows to the front panel before you begin the neckline shaping.
Add or remove as many rows as needed to the sleeve panel to adjust the length.
The front panels are shorter than the back panel.
If you don’t want pockets, simply skip the pocket panel section and the pocket seaming instructions.
When you work into the Hdc Sts, you’ll be working into the front loop and 3rd loop. The back loop is furthest away from you, the front loop is closer to you, and the 3rd loop is the “extra loop” below the front loop, that’s closest to you.

Fasten off, leave a long tail for seaming your pocket panel to your front panel.
Assembly-
Block your panels to the measurements listed above. I did a steam block.
Place your front and back panels together RS facing.
Use your preferred seaming method to attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used a needle and did the mattress stitch across). Be sure your panels and stitches are aligned.
Next, using the same joining process as above, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned
with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. Use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.
Next, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the cuffs to the underarm.
Before we start seaming down the side, we need to decide our pocket panel placement. I measured 8” from the underarm, down the side of the first front panel and placed a SM. This is where the top of my pocket panel will be lined up. Be sure your pocket panel is lined up on the outer edge of your front panel where the side seam of the cardigan is. Use SMs in all 4 corners to hold your panel in place. You can customize where you want your pocket opening to be, feel free to make adjustments here and place it higher or lower than the 8” recommended. Begin seaming from the underarm, down the side until you reach the SM where the top of your pocket panel is. Be very careful here. You will no longer be seaming through the front panel. At this point, we are creating the pocket opening so our needle will only be going through the side of the pocket panel and the side of the back panel. Take care to not stick your needle through the front panel as you go. As you sew, be sure that your front and back panel rows are still lined up evenly. Once you reach the bottom of the pocket panel, you can go back to seaming through both the front and back panel. I seamed approximately another 5”. I left the remaining length un-sewn to create a side slit. You can also customize this and adjust the length of your slit to your liking. Repeat the same process on the other side.
Ribbing-
With your cardigan RS out, join your yarn with a Sl St to the bottom corner of the front panel on your left hand side.
Row 1: Ch 2, Dc evenly up the side of your front panel, working approximately 2 Dc per row (1 Dc for every Hdc row), 1 Dc in each St across the back neckline, and down the side of your second front panel, once again working approximately 2 Dc per row, (1 Dc for every Hdc row) until you reach the corner, turn.Exact St count is not crucial to the pattern here, just be sure to end with an odd St count, so feel free to adjust your Sts where needed.
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a St, here and throughout), 1 Dc in first St, 1 Fpdc in next, *1 Bpdc, 1 Fpdc*, repeat from * to * across row until 1 St remains, 1 Dc in final St, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, 1 Dc first St, 1 Bpdc in next, *1Fpdc, 1 Bpdc*, repeat from * to * across row until 1 St remains, 1 Dc in final St, turn.
