Every once in a while you make a crochet design that just works up perfectly how you envisioned it. That was definitely the case for The Echoes Cardigan crochet pattern. I was a little nervous to make a whole sweater with Mandala because of all the different color changes. Buuuut I am absolutely obsessed with how it turned out.
I made no adjustments to the yarn colors as I worked it up. No cutting the yarn and only joining when It was time to bring in a new skein. I just let it work up naturally! I think that’s part of the fun with this design. Each cardigan will be slightly unique in their own way, as far as colors go. Once my panels were all worked up I did decide which one would look best where. Because the left and right front panels are the same, as well as the sleeves, you can place them on either side. For example, I put my front panel with lots of red in it, away from the sleeve that has lots of red in it to help “balance” the look. Feel free to play around with what looks best!
You can adjust the length of the Echoes Cardigan crochet pattern by adding or removing rows in multiples of 2 to the back and front panels before fastening off. You can add or remove length to the sleeves the same way, just before the cuff. You can make this design with or without the pockets but I think it looks soooo cute with! If you like a wider trim, you can also add more rows to it before fastening off. All the panels except the sleeves are worked bottom up. The sleeves are top down.
Introducing your new favorite layering piece! The Echoes Cardigan combines the unique beauty of randomly shifting Mandala yarn colors with a delightful pop of texture. The oversized pockets are as cozy as they are practical, perfect for adding a bit of style to any outfit. With an included video tutorial, you’ll find it easy and enjoyable to create this standout design.
To make a gauge swatch, follow the “left pocket” panel instructions and measure 4×4” within it to check gauge.

Notes:
This cardigan is worked in separate panels. The back, front and pocket panels are worked from the bottom up. The Sleeves are worked top down.
The starting Ch 3 counts as 1 St.
The starting Ch 4 counts as 1 St and 1 Ch Sp.
The Ch 3’s within the row do not count towards the St count.
I did not cut and join the yarn to achieve certain colors in different spots. I worked through an entire skein before joining in the next. Once your panels are made you can decide how to assemble them and what looks best. For example, I placed the sleeve with red at the top away from the front panel that already had plenty of red.
You can adjust the length of the cardigan by adding or removing rows in multiples of 2 on the front and back panels. Take into account this will alter your yardage requirement for your size.
The parenthesis at the beginning of the row are the row counts for all 9 sizes. The parenthesis at the end of the row are the stitch counts for all 9 sizes. The parenthesis within the row are the instructions for all 9 sizes.

Fasten off, leave a long tail to seam the side of your sleeve.
Note- This is an oversized drop-shoulder style cardigan. The wider the front/back panels are, the shorter the sleeve needs to be because they join further down your bicep. That’s why the smaller sizes have more rows than the larger. You an easily adjust your sleeve length by adding or taking away as many rows as needed before beginning the “cuff”.

Row 8(8, 8, 10, 10, 12, 12, 14, 14): Ch 3, 3 Dc in first St, *Sk 3 Sts, 1 Sc in next Sc St**, Ch 3, 3 Dc in same St as the Sc*, repeat from * to * across row ending last repeat at ** and leaving the remaining 4 Sts unworked, turn. (25(29, 33, 37, 41, 45, 49, 53, 57) Sts)

Fasten off, leave a tail long enough for sewing the top of the last row to your front panel.
Assembly:
Block your panels to the measurements listed above. I recommend a steam block.
Place your front and back panels together RS facing.
Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used a needle and did the mattress stitch across). Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches.
Next, using the same joining process as above, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned
with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. It is helpful to use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.
Finally, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the cuffs to the underarm and down the side of the cardigan.
Add Pockets and Trim:
With your cardigan RS out, place your “Right Pocket” panel on top of your right front panel, RS facing up. Make sure your pocket is lined up evenly. You may want to use SMs here to keep it in place. Join yarn with a Sl St to the bottom corner, working through both the corner St of the pocket and the front panel.
Round 1: Ch 1, Sc evenly up the side of the front panel being sure to work through the pocket panel as well. Continue working Sc Sts along the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel. Bring in the second pocket panel and Sc evenly down the side, attaching the pocket. When you reach the corner work 2 Sc into the same space. Now, continue attaching the pocket by working Sc Sts along the bottom of the cardigan, once again being sure to work through both the pocket and front panel. Continue across the bottom of the back panel as well as the bottom of the second front and pocket panels. When you reach the first St, work a second Sc in the same spot, Sl St to the top of the first Sc to join. Do not turn. Note- Your St count is not crucial here, place your Sc Sts evenly as you go. Don’t work too many Sts or your trim will be “wavy”. I worked approximately 3 Sts for every 2 rows of the panel.
Row 2: Ch 2, 1 Hdc (BLO) in each St up the side of the front panel, across the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel. Your last St will be at the bottom corner of the left front panel.
Fasten off.
Final Touches:
Lastly, we need to finish sewing the pockets to the front panels. Seam the last row of the pocket and the remaining side of the pocket to the front panel. Be sure to leave the decrease rows un-sewn for the pocket opening. Repeat with the second pocket. Weave in any remaining ends.
