The Starlight View Throw Crochet Pattern

There is something just so magical about combining 2 different yarns together to create something new! It’s one of my favorite ways to make blankets. I think The Starlight View Throw crochet pattern might be my new fave!

I took a super bulky weight (respun thick & quick) plus a worsted weight (landscapes breeze) and combined them by weaving the landscapes yarn and carrying it throughout! This was SO much fun to do. It was a nice change than just doing normal stitches. It took a couple of rows to get my fingers used to it but after that, this blanket basically flew off my hook. It took just about 1 week from start to finish.

You’ll be using an offset double crochet V-St throughout the entirety of the blanket. The part that makes it so special is carrying the second yarn along while you go. There is a very specific way on how you carry the yarn so be sure to read the info below or check out the video tutorial for a quick rundown before you get started!

I’m so excited to see everyones blankets and what colors you choose! The Landscapes Breeze yarn is amazing and worked perfectly for this throw. They have some beautiful color options so be sure to check the kit out!

Notes:

  • This blanket is made from the bottom up. The border is added last and worked in the round.

  • The Ch 3 at the beginning of the row counts as 1 St.

  • The Ch-1 Sp counts as 1 St.

  • You can adjust the width of your blanket by adding or removing Sts in multiples of 3 to your foundation row. Take into account this will alter your yardage requirements.

  • You can adjust the length of your blanket by adding or removing rows in multiples of 2. Take into account this will alter your yardage requirements.

How To Carry Yarn B Throughout The Pattern:

Below is the info on how to carry Yarn B throughout. I highly recommend checking out the video tutorial for a quick visual on carrying your yarn correctly.

  • On the last St of Row 1 we will be brining in Yarn B to begin carrying. Right before the final YO and pull through of the Sc, place yarn B on your hook and finish your St still with Yarn A to attach.

  • You will always be working your Sts with Yarn A and Carrying Yarn B.

  • For the Starting Ch 3’s, place Yarn B on your hook from front to back, then work a Ch like normal with Yarn A, doing so 3 times.

  • To carry the yarn through the Dc V-Sts with Yarn A, you will YO and insert hook into indicated St. Next, make sure Yarn B is placed across the top of your hook. Then, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2, now place Yarn B over hook from front to back, YO and pull through both loops to finish your Dc. For the Ch 1, place Yarn B on hook from front to back, YO and pull through. Repeat the same steps for the previous Dc to finish.

Pattern:

With Yarn A

Row 1: 75 Fsc, turn. (75 Sc) Alternatively, you can Ch 76, work 1 Sc into the second Ch from the hook and across for a total of 75 Sc.

Don’t forget to bring in Yarn B at the end of Row 1. Follow the instructions above and the video tutorial to learn how to carry the yarn for the remainder of the blanket.

Row 2(RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1 Dc here and throughout), 1 Dc in same St, Sk 1, [1 Dc, Ch 1, 1 Dc] into next St, *Sk 2, [1 Dc, Ch 1, 1 Dc] in next*, repeat from * to * across row until 3 remain, Sk 2, 1 Dc in last, turn. (75 Sts)

Row 3: Ch 3, 1 Dc in same St, *Sk 2 (skipping the Dc and the Ch-1 Sp), [1 Dc, Ch 1, 1 Dc] into next St*, repeat from * to * across row until 2 remain, Sk 1, 1 Dc in last (top of turning ch), turn. (75 Sts)

Rows 4-50: Repeat Row 3.

Do not fasten off or turn after the last row. We will now be adding the border.

Border-

We will now be using both Yarn A and B, holding the yarn together, double stranded, to work the stitches of the border.

Round 1: Ch 3, 1 Dc in same spot as the Ch 3, Dc evenly down the side of the blanket, working approximately 3 Dc for every 2 rows. When you reach the bottom left corner, work 3 Dc into the same St (place a SM in the center of the 3), 1 Dc in each St along the bottom of the blanket, when you reach the next corner work 3 Dc into the same St (place a SM in the center of the 3), work approximately 3 Dc for every 2 rows up the second side of the blanket, when you reach the next corner work 3 Dc into the same St (place a SM in the center of the 3), 1 Dc in each St along the top of the blanket, finish with Dc in same spot as the Ch 3, Sl St to the top of the Ch 3 to join. (Approximately 256 Dc) Your final St Count is not crucial here. If you find that you need a few more/less Sts feel free to make slight adjustments. However, be sure to not work too many Sts along the sides as it will cause your blanket to ripple.

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 Sc in each St down the side of the blanket until you reach the SM, work 3 Sc into that St, 1 Sc in each St along the bottom until you reach the second SM, work 3 Sc into that St, 1 Sc in each St along the side until you reach the 3rd SM, 3 Sc into that St, 1 Sc in each St along the top, finish with 2 Sc in the same St as the first St made, Sl St to the first St to join. (264 Sc)

You can continue repeating Rounds 1 & 2 for a wider border and to use any remaining yarn before fastening off.

Fasten off, weave in any remaining ends.
