The Mae Flower Knit Cowl

I’ve been loving to knit a bit more then usual. My main love is crochet of course and that’s what I feel the most comfortable doing but I think it’s good to do things that you aren’t as confident in so you can grow! The Mae Flower Knit Cowl was one of those things!

The Mae Flower Knit Cowl is super beginner friendly. Like “if you have never knit before beginner friendly”. If you are a crocheter like me I would love to see you give this a shot and learn along with me! 🙂

I made a video tutorial to walk new knitters through this pattern. If you are familiar with knitting you can definitely make The Mae Flower Cowl without any visual help.

The Mae Flower Cowl is also really fast to work up. It uses super bulky yarn and large needles so this can be made up in about half an hour if you are an experienced knitter!

One of my favorite parts about this cowl is how versatile it is! Don’t have the right size needles? No worries, just size down and cast on a couple more stitches when you start. Only have bulky yarn instead of super bulky? No problem! You can just use slightly smaller needles and add more stitches! It’s really easy to adjust.

The Mae Flower Cowl pattern includes 2 different sizes, Child and Adult! The best part about it is you can make 1 of each size using the same 2 balls of yarn! I used 1 ball of Fifty-Fifty in Charcoal and 1 in Ecru. After I made the adult size, I had enough left over to make a child size! If you are interested in doing the same I recommend purchasing the kit from Lionbrand.com

I decided to name the cowl after my daughter Penelope. Her middle name is Mae. One of her nicknames is Mae Flower and since she helped model the cowl I thought it was the perfect fit!

Description: This striped knit cowl is the perfect beginner project! It’s quick to work up if you need a fast gift and the super bulky yarn is easy to work with. Each kit comes with enough yarn to make both an adult and child size cowl, perfect for a “mommy & me” set!

Materials:

  • Super Bulky (6) weight yarn- Lion Brand Fifty-Fifty in “Ecru”(1 ball,57(43) yards) and “Charcoal”(1 ball, 42(28) yards)

  • US36/20.0mm 24” Circular Needles

  • Yarn Needle

  • Scissors

Sizes: Adult(child)

Gauge:

4×4”= 8 rounds by 5.5 Sts

Finished Cowl Measurements:

Adult- 17.5” W by 14” L, Child- 12.5” W, 10” L

Pattern Notes:

  • This cowl is worked from the bottom up in the round.

  • 1 Ball of Charcoal and 1 Ball of Ecru is enough to make 1 adult size cowl and 1 child size cowl.

  • Be sure to use your stitch marker to keep your place and move it up with each round.

  • You can easily size down your needles if you want. I recommend using one of these sizes if you don’t have US36 (20mm): US17 (12mm), US19 (16mm), US35 (19mm). You will have to change the amount of stitches you cast on (add more) to make it the same size as the sample cowl. I recommend working up a few rows and making sure it’s 17.5” wide (or desired size) before continuing.
