LB Traveling Seasons Afghan Square #6

The year-long project sponsored by Lion Brand Yarn called the “Traveling Seasons
Afghan” is now ready for my square! This has been a collaborative effort between 13
designers and bloggers from across the U.S. and Canada!
Starting in January, the first Seasons Afghan square was started by Whistle and Wool,
and then began its seasonal journey to a new designer every month. Each designer
created a 13″x 13″ square with their seasonal memory. These are published free online
so everyone can follow along with us and create your own crochet Afghan! The
year-long collaborative effort connects us with one another through the things we love
and with memories built in. Each Square created has been designed with a passion
behind that season.

*My square is # 6 and all the materials needed are below in my pattern.
**You can also select a PDF version of this pattern in my  Ravelry shop for
$1.
Visit the master list of this year’s designers from Lionbrand Yarn below and links to their
sites as the link below for the itinerary of the Afghan. Follow along with the squares and
the route as they travel around for each season.

For my square I knew I wanted to crochet something that had to do with the sun. Sunrise is my favorite time of a day and I love when I wake up early and catch it rising over the mountains in the summer time. Sunset is also equally amazing and hanging out on the front porch swing as the sun goes down in the summer is just perfection in my opinion. Luckily this square can double as the sun rising or setting. Which is your favorite?

It’s been a while since I have done anything in filet crochet So I thought that would be fun.  I’ve included a filet crochet chart  with written rows but if you do not know how to read one, no worries! I also have included regular written crochet instructions.

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight (4) Yarn, 1 Skein of Lion Brand Wool-Ease in “Grey Heather” 150 yards

  • J/6.0mm Crochet Hook

  • Tapestry Needle

Notes:

  • Square is worked from the bottom up.

  • The Ch 3 at the beginning of the rows counts as 1 Dc.

  • The Ch 5 at the beginning of the rows counts as 1 Dc + Ch 2.

  • This square is worked up in filet crochet. I have included traditional crochet instructions as well as the filet crochet graph and instructions below.

  • If you don’t know how to read a filet crochet graph and pattern I’ve included some links in my blog post to get you started. If you would rather stick to what you know you can follow the traditional crochet pattern.

  • The square is worked from the bottom up

After Row 23 do not tie off or turn. Work a Sc border evenly around your square. St count is not crucial on the sides, just try to space your stitches out evenly. When you reach each corner work 2 Sc into the same spot to help “turn” your work around the corner. You will work 1 Sc into each Dc of the first and last row. When you reach the first Sc made join with a Sl St. Note- If your work on the side is “wavy” around the edges you have too many Sc and need to go back and work less Sts. If your work is scrunching up you do not have enough St and need to go back and add more.

Tie off and weave in all ends.
