LB Traveling Seasons Afghan Square #6

The year-long project sponsored by Lion Brand Yarn called the “Traveling Seasons
Afghan” is now ready for my square! This has been a collaborative effort between 13
designers and bloggers from across the U.S. and Canada!
Starting in January, the first Seasons Afghan square was started by Whistle and Wool,
and then began its seasonal journey to a new designer every month. Each designer
created a 13″x 13″ square with their seasonal memory. These are published free online
so everyone can follow along with us and create your own crochet Afghan! The
year-long collaborative effort connects us with one another through the things we love
and with memories built in. Each Square created has been designed with a passion
behind that season.

*My square is # 6 and all the materials needed are below in my pattern.
**You can also select a PDF version of this pattern in my  Ravelry shop for
$1.
Visit the master list of this year’s designers from Lionbrand Yarn below and links to their
sites as the link below for the itinerary of the Afghan. Follow along with the squares and
the route as they travel around for each season.

The Fitzwilliam Throw Blanket- A Free Crochet Pattern

So, I don’t know about you guys but I plan on staying home as much as possible this year and doing all my shopping online! I would much rather be cozied up under a squishy blanket instead of fighting the crowds to get my shopping done haha! I made the perfect blanket to do just that- The Fitzwilliam Throw Blanket!

The Fitzwilliam Throw Blanket is made with Lion Brand Cover Story yarn and Lion Brand Go For Faux Thick and Quick yarn! Both of these were the perfect combo to whip this up in record time. I think I worked on it on and off for only a few nights!

You can find all the yarn you need at JOANN stores! They had a ton of Go For Faux Thick & Quick colors to choose from. I was so excited when I came across the color “Zebra” because it reminded me of my dog- Fitzwilliam! If you’re not a fan of animal prints they also have a bunch of solid colors too.

The Mae Flower Knit Cowl

I’ve been loving to knit a bit more then usual. My main love is crochet of course and that’s what I feel the most comfortable doing but I think it’s good to do things that you aren’t as confident in so you can grow! The Mae Flower Knit Cowl was one of those things!

The Mae Flower Knit Cowl is super beginner friendly. Like “if you have never knit before beginner friendly”. If you are a crocheter like me I would love to see you give this a shot and learn along with me! 🙂

I made a video tutorial to walk new knitters through this pattern. If you are familiar with knitting you can definitely make The Mae Flower Cowl without any visual help.

The Mae Flower Cowl is also really fast to work up. It uses super bulky yarn and large needles so this can be made up in about half an hour if you are an experienced knitter!

One of my favorite parts about this cowl is how versatile it is! Don’t have the right size needles? No worries, just size down and cast on a couple more stitches when you start. Only have bulky yarn instead of super bulky? No problem! You can just use slightly smaller needles and add more stitches! It’s really easy to adjust.

Sweet Summer Tee Crochet Pattern

Oh sweet summer! Summer is my favorite season, what about you? I love the long lazy days, the sunshine and warmth, playing outside with my girls, hiking, swimming and the pretty sunsets! The Sweet Summer Tee is a must-make for the warmer months.

It’s slightly oversized for a comfy fit that flatters all body types. You can easily add or take away rows for a longer or shorter fit. It’s also perfect for beginners because there is minimal shaping and seaming.

I used Lion Brand Coboo for this top. It’s one of my absolute favorite yarns for garments. I used it for my Happy At Home Hoodie and my Bobble Crop Top!

Magical Market Tote

Im a huge fan of FAST patterns, what about you?! The Magical Market Tote works up in just a few hours. Maybe even less if you don’t take any breaks! Its double stranded and uses a few different large hooks for a quick make!

This mesh like bag stretches to a really decent size. When I was making it I didn’t realize it would lengthen so much when I put items into it. It reminded me of Hermione Grangers magical extended purse when I started putting things in…it can fit SO much. If you don’t want it to stretch to the long length that my bag is I would omit a couple of rows. Personally, I love how big it is!

I used Lion Brand 24/7 cotton for this bag, held double! I love this yarn for bags because its so sturdy. Have you used it before? A great substitute for this yarn would be Lion Brand Comfy Cotton! I used it for my beehive bag!

The Magical Market Tote is perfect for the beach, the farmers market or even used as a WIP bag! Be sure to tag me on social media when you finish yours so I can share!

Find The Magical Market Tote on Ravelry! Add it to your queue for later or share the love with a heart! 😉

The Penny Lane Poncho Kid’s Pattern

I have the cutest “mommy and me” set to share with you guys! I released this pattern last year to my Etsy and Ravelry shops and i’m slowly migrating some of those patterns here, free on my blog! The Penny Lane Poncho is written in both adult and child sizes! I had so much fun taking these photos with Penny last year. The child size pattern can be found below. Click here to check out the adult sizes also free on my blog!

I used Lion Brand Rewind yarn which is a really unique and fun yarn to work with! It has a summery and beach type vibe to me. The yarn is bulky weight so the poncho works up really quickly but still has a lightweight feel to it!

It’s also beginner friendly! You basically just crochet one giant rectangle and make 2 small seams to sew it together and that’s it!

Description: Loose open stitches combined with the airy Rewind yarn makes for a perfect poncho to toss over your clothes when the sun starts to set. This is a great beginner garment and a cute “mommy and me” set for photos.

Grey Skies Blanket (I Wanna Make A Blankie)

When I saw Lion Brand’s new “I Wanna Make A Blankie” yarn I knew I had to get some. I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of blanket I was going to make until I started to clean out my desk drawers lol! I found one of my Tunisian crochet hooks that I had purchased from Amazon last year and knew that I had to use it.

I used just under 1 ball of “I wanna make a blankie” yarn. You get a HUGE amount of yarn from it and can make an entire blanket with just 1 skein! Keep in mind that this blanket is pretty small, like a baby blanket. If you want something bigger, like a throw for your living room, I would definitely get 2 skeins. If you want to make a giant blanket then you might as well grab 3!

I have a bunch of other free blanket patterns available! Have you seen my “Super Chunky Cozy Crochet Blanket?”

I also have a ton of corner 2 corner blankets! My most popular being “Covered In Cats.”

This is the hook set that I used. You will be using the 19/15mm hook size for this blanket. I LOVE this set! It’s interchangeable and comes with different cords to adjust the length.

Pattern: The Sunny Slouch

I was recently given the chance to try out some new yarn and I love it! It’s a gorgeous 100% baby alpaca light weight yarn. The Andeansun website has so many pretty yarns to try out so be sure to take a look! I decided on the color “sunset”. It’s a beautiful yellow color and when you look up close it has small flecks of green. I wanted to make something fun with a simple stitch so that the yarn could really shine in this project. A while back I made my “basic chunky slouch” beanie and thought that a re-make of the pattern with a lighter yarn would be perfect for it!

This beanie is very customizable size wise. Simply make the starting foundation row as long as you want it. The longer the row the more “slouch” your beanie will have. Work as many rows as you need for the hat to fit around your head. I’ll include a rough estimate for amount of rows needed but you can easily adjust it.

Materials:

  • Light (3) weight yarn. I used Andeansun baby alpaca in the color “sunset” Approximately 70(90,120,150,190) grams.
  • 4.00mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle

Pattern: Summer Nights Shawl

Is it summer yet?! Nope, it’s not even spring yet. lol. I’m hoping that if I make all of the warm weather things it will force the sunshine to come. Let’s see if it works. 🙂 The Summer Nights Shawl is a super fun and quick make to work up while you’re netflixing. It’s a very easy mesh stitch with a simple repeat row. It’s worked up double stranded with the light and superfine yarn. If you don’t have both yarns available, I recommend using just a basic worsted weight yarn!

Be sure to follow me on Instagram and tag me with your finished shawl! I love to share your work with my followers. 🙂

Materials:

  • Light (3) weight cotton yarn. Pattern uses Lion Brand Comfy Cotton in “whipped Cream”. 200 yards.
  • Superfine (1) weight yarn. Pattern uses Lion Brand Summer Nights in “blue Lagoon”. 215 yards.
  • 5.00mm Crochet Hook
  • Optional- If you add tassels or fringe, you will need more yarn then noted above.
