Posy Petal Cardigan Crochet Pattern

Welcome to my first crochet pattern of 2026- The Posy Petal Cardigan crochet pattern! I’m so excited to release my very first pattern of the year.

The Posy Petal Cardigan is worked from the bottom up with easy stitching. You will be alternating 1 row of double crochet and 1 row of lemon peel stitch! It gives it that super cozy “puffed” stripe look. You’ll do some shaping in the neckline as well as the sleeves. The cardigan is finished with an easy crochet ribbing.

This is my first time using “Feels Like Bliss” yarn and let me tell ya…I WILL be using it again!! Oh my gosh it is soooo soft! Yes, it is fluffy but I didn’t have any issues seeing my stitches when I worked this up. When you look closely at the yarn, you can see the chainette style yarn with the fluffy little fur coming off of it. It’s bouncy and so squishy! My one recommendation is to use a plastic needle when you seam your pieces, not a metal one. I found the sharp metal ones to get “caught” in the thread. The plastic needle fixed this issue!

Be sure to check out my video tutorial to get a close up of every step! I loved making this cardigan but love wearing it more. In fact, I’m wearing it right now as I type! 🙂

If you love this free cardigan pattern, be sure to check out some of my other ones here as well!

Description:

The Posy Petal Cardigan is a fairytale-soft, cropped cardigan designed for cozy days and dreamy layering. Made with an ultra-plush bulky yarn, this design features an oversized, relaxed fit with gently tapered sleeves and sweet ribbed details at the hem, cuffs, and neckline. A flattering V-neck and button closure add a timeless touch, while the fuzzy texture makes it irresistibly soft. This pattern works up quickly and includes a full video tutorial, making it an enjoyable and approachable project for confident beginners and beyond.

Notes:

  • The back and front panels are worked from the bottom up. The sleeves are worked from the top down.

  • The starting Ch 3 in the ribbing counts as 1 St. The Ch 3 in the decrease rows does not count.

  • The starting Ch 2 does not count.

  • The starting Ch 1 does not count.

  • Adjust the length of your sleeves by adding or removing rows just before the cuff section. Take into account this alters the yardage requirements.

  • Adjust the length of your cardigan by adding or removing rows in multiples of 2 on the back panel. Add or remove the same amount to your front panels before you begin to decrease. Take into account this alters the yardage requirements.

  • No button holes are required. You will easily be able to button cardigan by using the spaces in between the posts for your button closure.

Fasten off, leave a long tail for seaming from the cuff to the underarm.

Note- This is an oversized drop-shoulder style cardigan. The wider

the front/back panels are, the shorter the sleeve needs to be because they

join further down your bicep. That’s why the smaller sizes have more

rows than the larger. You an easily adjust your sleeve length by adding

or taking away as many rows as needed, just before the cuff section or, just before the decrease section.

Assembly-

Block your panels to the measurements listed above. I recommend a light steam block, being very careful to avoid direct contact with the fibers.
Place your front and back panels together RS facing.
Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used a plastic needle and did the mattress stitch across). Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches.

Next, using the same joining process as above, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. It is helpful to use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.
Finally, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the end of sleeve to the underarm and down the side of the cardigan. Repeat on the other side.

Posy Petal Cardigan Seaming

Ribbing Trim-

With your cardigan fully seamed and RS out, join yarn with a Sl St to the corner of the front panel on the left hand side.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 Dc), Dc evenly up the side of the first front panel, across the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel until you reach the corner, turn. Work approximately 3 Dc Sts for every 2 rows of the front panels. Exact St count is not crucial here, so feel free to adjust slightly by a few stitches if needed. Just be aware too many Sts will make your work wavy, too little Sts will leave gaps.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 Dc), *1 Bpdc, 1 Fpdc*, repeat from * to * across row until 1 St remains (note- doesn’t matter if it’s a front post or back post, depends on your St count), 1 Dc in top of final St (the top of the Ch 3).

Fasten off.

Sew Buttons-

With your cardigan RS out, decide your button placement, on the right hand side (left panel when worn). I spaced 3 buttons out evenly. I placed my first one right at the first decrease row then evenly placed my final 2 buttons. You can place your buttons wherever you choose or use as many buttons that you would like. No button holes are needed. Simply use the space in between the post ribbing to close cardigan.

Weave in any remaining ends. I recommend using a plastic needle.
