The Frankie Set Crochet Pattern

The girls have been begging for me to crochet them something with lots of bright, rainbow colors. Of course i’m going to oblige! I already knew a matching headband and fingerless mitt set would be super cute but I still had to hunt down the perfect yarn!

I decided to go to JOANN and check out the yarn because I knew it was currently the Yarnormous sale! Unless you are brand new to the yarn life, than you already know the Yarnormous sale that happens every year is THE best time to stock up on yarn!

I found a really pretty Mandala Sparkle yarn by Lion Brand and knew it would be perfect for this project! The color I picked was Serpents but they had a ton of different color combos to chose from. I absolutely had to get this color because it reminded me of Lisa Frank! Don’t you agree? I had so many Lisa Frank folders, stickers and pencils back in the day with fun crazy colors like this! I had to go with the name Frankie for this design! Haha

The best part about this project is using up the different colors in the cakes however you want. You can cut and join to arrange colors to your liking! I ended up with a purple and pink headband with matching green and blue mitts! I added some trim on to both the mitts and headband to give it even more color.

Make sure you head to YouTube for the full video tutorials! I have one available for the headband and one available for the fingerless mitts if you need some extra help!

You might recognize this stitch as the same one I used in The Kiah Cardigan and The Winter Moonlight Set! If you want adult size mittens, beanie and cardigan then be sure to check them out!

Begin working headband to check gauge

Sizes:

Headband- One size only. You can adjust the length to fit any size head by adding or removing as man rows as needed.

Finished Measurements:

Headband- 18.5” L by 3.5” W (before seaming)

Fingerless Mitts- 4.25”(4.5”, 4.75”) L by 3”(3.25”, 3.5”) W

Notes:

  • You can customize the headband size to your needs. Measure the circumference of the Childs head and work your headband length approximately 1-2” less. The headband will stretch to fit the head.

  • The fingerless mitts are written in 3 sizes. You can easily adjust to the size you need by adding or removing ribbing rows in multiples of 3.

  • I have a full video tutorial available for both the headband and mitts. Be sure to check it out for help!

  • I used 1/2 a skein to make 1 headband and 1 set of “little kid” size mitts.

  • You can cut and join yarn depending on the color from the skein you would like to use.

Rows 2-51: Ch 1, work 1 Sc, 1 Hdc and 1 Dc into first St, *Sk 2, [1 Sc, 1 Hdc, 1 Dc] in next*, repeat from * to * across row until 3 remain, Sk 2, 1 Sc in final St, turn. (13 Sts) Note- you can adjust the length of your headband by adding or removing as many rows as needed. Remember to make your headband 1-2” smaller than the head circumference.

Fold headband in half, RS facing. The left corner of the top half should line up in the center on the other side. Fold the left side over across the front and the other side around the back so that 4 pieces are sandwiched together. Sew through all 4 panels to create a twisted headband. Turn RS out. Check out the video tutorial to see how!

Add Trim: With a new color of your choice, add yarn with a Sl St to the front of the headband along the top starting at the twist. Sc evenly around. Fasten off and repeat on the bottom of the headband working Sc evenly around. St count is not crucial here, I worked approximately 1 Sc per row.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
