Pattern: Chunky Crochet Blanket

I’ve been eyeing this super chunky yarn from Hobby Lobby for a loooong time. I really wanted to make a chunky crochet blanket for myself but could never get myself to buy all the yarn required. When I saw it go on sale for only 4.89 I decided to go for it! It took a total of 13 Ivory skeins and 2 grey. I know it can be difficult to force yourself to buy so much yarn at once but I promise it will be worth it! This is definitely the coziest blanket ever and the yarn is a dream to work with. SO soft!

Be sure to follow me on Instagram and tag me in your finished blankets so I can see! 🙂

Materials:

Finished Size: 55″x65″

Gauge:

Gauge is not important for this project.

Notes:

  • In some of the rows you will be working your hdc in the 3rd loop. It is exactly the same as a normal Hdc except you will be working it in the extra “3rd Loop”. For this particular pattern the 3rd loop is on the side of the blanket closest to you.

  • The Ch 1 and Ch 2 at the beginning of rows do not count as a stitch.

  • Your stitch count will stay 35 throughout the pattern.

Stitches Used:

  • Fhdc: Foundation Half Double Crochet

  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet

  • BLO: Back Loop Only

  • Dc: Double Crochet

Chunky Crochet Blanket Pattern:

With main color-

Row 1: Work 35 Fhdc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as St here and throughout), 1 Hdc in each St across. Turn.

Row 3-5: Ch 2 (does not count as St here and throughout), 1 Dc in each St across. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, 1 Hdc in each St across. Turn.

Row 7: Ch 1, 1 Hdc working in the 3rd loop only, in each St across. Turn.

Row 8: Ch 1, 1 Hdc BLO in each St across. Turn.

Row 9: Ch 1, 1 Hdc working in the 3rd loop only, in each St across. Turn.

Row 10: Ch 1, 1 Hdc BLO in each St across. Turn.

Row 11: Ch 1, 1 Dc working in the 3rd loop only, in each St across. Turn.

Row 12 & 13: Ch 1, 1 Dc in each St across. Turn.

Row 14-21: Repeat rows 6-13

Row 22 & 23: Ch 1, 1 Hdc in each St across.

Tie Off.

Attach your second color to the Hdc stitch where you just tied off, with a Sl St. Work 2 Sc in that same stitch. Continue across the bottom of row 23 with 1 Sc in each St. When you reach the corner of the blanket, work 2 sc in the same St. Continue along the side of the blanket working single crochet evenly across. When  you reach the next corner, work 2 Sc into the same St. Rotate your work and continue with 1 Sc in each St. Work 2 Sc in the corner. Rotate your work, continue with Sc evenly along the side. Try to work the same amount of stitches as you did on the first side. When you reach the last corner, Sl St into the first Sc made. Tie off. Weave in all ends. I just used my fingers to do this sense the yarn is so large.
