Leo The Spider- Crochet Pattern

I’ve been keeping Leo The Spider a secret since the first week of July. It’s finally October and I get to share him with you! I’m not normally huge into Halloween decorations but Leo The Spider is definitely one I can get behind.

If there was ever a cute and cuddly spider then Leo is totally it. His fluffy fur and cute little eyes are more sweet than spooky. All 3 of my girls have been trying to claim him as their own but I think he will stay in my office as my little buddy. haha.

I used Lion Brand fur yarn for the body and some blanket yarn for the legs! The body is made in one piece and the legs are made by crocheting 4 tubes! There is no sewing at all for this giant amigurumi which is my favorite part! He works up so quickly and was really fun to make. Don’t be scared to use the fluffy yarn, you can easily feel the stitches with your fingers and the body is worked in continuous rounds with a stitch marker so it’s easy to keep track!

I have a full video tutorial available of Leo if you need some extra help! Be sure to check it out and subscribe to my channel for more free patterns! All of the supplies I used are available at JOANN and are linked below!

Love Leo and want a ghost pal to go with him? Check out my ghost amigurumi here!

Description: Get ready to make the cutest fuzzy spider pal! Leo the spider is a quick and fun make for all the Halloween vibes! His body is worked up in fur yarn in one large piece. The legs are made up separately and joined through the spider body. There is no sewing involved which is always a bonus!

Notes:

  • The body of the spider is made from the bottom up and worked in continuous rounds. There is no joining and chaining between the rounds. Use a SM to hold your spot with each round. Use your fingers to feel your stitches because the fur yarn can be hard to see.

  • You will make 4 tubes to create the 8 legs. Each tube is 2 legs. The legs are worked in continuous rounds with no joining or chaining between rounds. You will need to put your chenille stems inside the tube and fill with stuffing as you work them up. The legs will be inserted in between the stitches of the spider body and out the other side to create both legs.

Pattern (Legs, make 4):

You will be making 4 long tubes and threading them through the spiders body to create 8 legs. Work up approximately 6 rounds. Then, take 2 Chenille Stems and twist them together a few times. Insert your stems into the leg. Then, begin to stuff with poly-fil. You will want to stop every few rounds and stuff the leg as you go. When you reach the end of your chenille stems, take 2 more, twist them together a few times and attach to the end of your previous 2 stems. Continue stuffing and finish the remainder of the leg.

With your N/9.00mm hook and Super Bulky (6) yarn-

ML

Round 1: Ch 1, 3 Sc into the ML, pull tail tight to close. (3 Sc)

Round 2: Inc in each St around. (6 Sc)

Rounds 3-35: 1 Sc in each St around. (6 Sc)

Tie off and leave a 8” tail to sew the top shut. Use your needle and tail of yarn to close. Threading through the FLO, work your needle through each of the Sts. Pull tight to close. Weave in the end by sticking the needle through the center of the closure and pull it down a few inches and out the side of the leg. Cut remaining yarn with scissors.

Body-

With your Q/16mm hook and Jumbo (7) fur yarn-

ML

Round 1: Ch 1, 6 Sc into ML. (6 Sc)

Round 2: Inc in each St around. (12 Sc)

Round 3: *1 Sc, Inc* repeat around. (18 Sc)

Round 4: *2 Sc, Inc* repeat around. (24 Sc)

Rounds 5-8: 1 Sc in each St around.

Round 9: *2 Sc, Sc2tog* repeat around. (18 Sc)

Round 10: 1 Sc in each St around.

Round 11: *1 Sc, Sc2tog* repeat around. (12 Sc)

Round 12: 1 Sc in each St around.

Round 13: *1 Sc, Inc* in each St around. (18 Sc)

Rounds 14-15: 1 Sc in each St around.

Round 16: *1 Sc, Sc2tog* repeat around. (12 Sc)

Stop here and pull the 4 tubes through the spider body to create the 8 legs. You can determine where you want your legs placed and move them around if needed. I skipped 2 rounds between each leg placement. After your legs are inserted begin to stuff your spider.

Round 17: *Sc2tog* repeat around. (6 Sc)

Tie off, leave an 8” tail for sewing shut. Take your safety eyes and place them on the head of the spider. I placed them at round 16 with 2 Sts in between. You can place them wherever you prefer. Finish stuffing head.

Use your needle and tail of yarn to close. Threading through the FLO, work your needle through each of the Sts. Pull tight to close. Weave in the end by sticking the needle through the center of the closure and pull it down a few inches and out the head of the spider. Tuck in or trim remaining yarn.
