The Luna Cardigan

The secret is finally out!! My friend Meghan and I have been working on an awesome collab for you guys and we finally get to reveal it! The Luna Cardigan isn’t being released by herself. She has a knit sister design called The Lottie Cardigan!

The Luna (crochet) and The Lottie (knit) are both beginner friendly and available in sizes XS-5X!  Although one is knit and one is crochet we designed them so that they would still be similar in look and fit! Both are free on our blogs and each have a full video tutorial! Not only that but they each are available as kits with Lion Brand! As always, the kit comes with the yarn to make your own cardigan + the PDF digital download of the pattern.

The Go For Fleece Sherpa yarn is so soft and amazing! Although it does take a tiny bit of practice working with fluffy yarn, the outcome is worth it! I have a full video tutorial available in case you need some extra help!

If you want to try out the knit version of The Luna then make sure you head on over to Meghan’s blog and check out The Lottie Cardigan!

Notes:

  • Pattern is written as XS(S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X).

  • The numbers at the beginning of each row in parenthesis are the row counts for all sizes. The numbers at the end of each row in parenthesis are the stitch counts for all sizes.

  • Pattern is worked in 5 separate panels from the bottom up.

  • You can easily make your cardigan longer or shorter by adding or taking away rows on your back and front panels before tying off. Remember, if you add rows to take into account the extra yardage required.

  • I recommend “feeling” the stitches instead of trying to see them. Due to the fluffy nature of the yarn it’s easier to find the stitches with your fingers.

Join Panels-

Place your front and back panels together RS facing. Note- due to the fuzzy/fluffy nature of the yarn used, it really doesn’t matter what sides you place together. I placed mine so that the tail of the front panels were on the outer side of the shoulders so that I could easily join across. Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used my hook and slip stitched across). Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches. You will have 3(3, 3, 4, 4, 3, 3, 4, 4) Sc stitches unworked at the neckline in the middle of the back panel.

Next, using the same joining process, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. It is helpful to use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.

Finally, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the cuffs to the underarm and down the side of the cardigan. Leave approximately 11” unworked or desired length for the optional side slit. Tie off and repeat on other side.

Trim-

With your cardigan RS out, join yarn with a Sl St to the bottom inner corner of the left front panel (right panel when worn). Ch 1, work Sc stitches evenly up the side of the front panel, along the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel. When you reach the corner, tie off. Note- exact St count is not crucial here, just try to work your stitches evenly on both sides.

Weave in all ends.
