LB Traveling Seasons Afghan Square #6

The year-long project sponsored by Lion Brand Yarn called the “Traveling Seasons
Afghan” is now ready for my square! This has been a collaborative effort between 13
designers and bloggers from across the U.S. and Canada!
Starting in January, the first Seasons Afghan square was started by Whistle and Wool,
and then began its seasonal journey to a new designer every month. Each designer
created a 13″x 13″ square with their seasonal memory. These are published free online
so everyone can follow along with us and create your own crochet Afghan! The
year-long collaborative effort connects us with one another through the things we love
and with memories built in. Each Square created has been designed with a passion
behind that season.

*My square is # 6 and all the materials needed are below in my pattern.
**You can also select a PDF version of this pattern in my  Ravelry shop for
$1.
Visit the master list of this year’s designers from Lionbrand Yarn below and links to their
sites as the link below for the itinerary of the Afghan. Follow along with the squares and
the route as they travel around for each season.

The Whimsy Satchel Crochet Pattern

It’s been a while since I’ve made a crochet bag. The Whimsy Satchel is definitely a new favorite of mine! It’s perfect for quick trips out when you don’t want to carry a ton of stuff. It also works up super quickly!

I used a new yarn from Lion Brand called “Just Hemp”. This is a sturdy bulky weight yarn. It’s definitely the type of yarn I would recommend for bags/placemats/baskets over garments and blankets!

The Whimsy Satchel is worked almost entirely in one piece. You will start in the center of the front flap and make your half circle in rows. The front flap, top, back, bottom and front panel are all worked in one piece. The strap and sides are worked in one piece as well and then everything is sewn together. Make sure you check out the available photos if you get confused!

The Moonstone Throw Crochet Pattern

The Moonstone Throw crochet pattern is heeeeere! This one was so much fun for me to make. I wanted something simple that was easy enough for a beginner but also wasn’t toooo simple that it would be boring.

Each different color uses the same stitch throughout the blanket. And the blanket is actually only 4 big repeats of the same section! If you like to always have a big project to work on in your WIP rotation then you definitely have to start the Moonstone Throw.

Have you used Lion Brand Pound Of Love before? If not, you have got to give it a shot! This yarn is perfect for blankets in my opinion. It comes in a HUGE skein…a whole pound! It’s also super affordable for all of that yarn. Only $11.69 for an entire 1,020 yards. That is craaaaazy! Also, it has so many cute color options!!

You guys know that I’m blanket obsessed. Here are a couple other free blanket patterns- The Hello Sunshine Afghan and The Draped In Dogs Afghan.

Description:

The Moonstone Throw crochet pattern is a fun beginner blanket with an easy color and stitch repeat. The stripes are modern and fit with any home decor.

Grey Skies Blanket (I Wanna Make A Blankie)

When I saw Lion Brand’s new “I Wanna Make A Blankie” yarn I knew I had to get some. I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of blanket I was going to make until I started to clean out my desk drawers lol! I found one of my Tunisian crochet hooks that I had purchased from Amazon last year and knew that I had to use it.

I used just under 1 ball of “I wanna make a blankie” yarn. You get a HUGE amount of yarn from it and can make an entire blanket with just 1 skein! Keep in mind that this blanket is pretty small, like a baby blanket. If you want something bigger, like a throw for your living room, I would definitely get 2 skeins. If you want to make a giant blanket then you might as well grab 3!

I have a bunch of other free blanket patterns available! Have you seen my “Super Chunky Cozy Crochet Blanket?”

I also have a ton of corner 2 corner blankets! My most popular being “Covered In Cats.”

This is the hook set that I used. You will be using the 19/15mm hook size for this blanket. I LOVE this set! It’s interchangeable and comes with different cords to adjust the length.

Teddy Bear Blanket Pattern

I’m a little bit addicted to making c2c (corner 2 corner) blankets but I think you guys already know that lol. I’ve worked with the baby boucle yarn before for a cardigan pattern (the cozy boyfriend cardigan) and knew that It would be perfect for a teddy bear design. The teddy bear crochet blanket!

This blanket is a bit smaller than my other recent c2c’s and I think it’s the perfect size for baby or toddler! I think it would be an awesome handmade baby shower gift as well. The chunky yarn and smaller size makes it work up pretty quickly and only took me a couple weeks on and off to complete. Check out my other free c2c patterns- The Covered In Cats Afghan, The Draped In Dogs Afghan and Unicorn Dreams Afghan

I uses Lion Brand Color Made Easy for the main blanket and Baby Soft Boucle for the teddy bear. The Baby Soft Boucle is held double stranded. You won’t want to skip out on that part so be sure you hold 2 strands at once or the bear wont be big enough.

I also think it works great as a floor mat for babies and toddlers! The bulky yarn makes it extra squishy and soft. It’s definitely on the thicker side for a blanket! Like I said, perfect baby shower gift. 😉

Pattern: The Skyscape Shrug

Have you ever tried Landscapes yarn by Lion Brand? I remember buying some a few years ago to make a hat but never designed anything on a bigger scale with it. I’m so excited to finally share the Skyscape Shrug with you all! Its very simple. If you can make a rectangle then you can make this sweater! It’s the perfect project to work on while binging your favorite show on Netflix because you repeat the same few rows over and over! It is also super easy to customize. You can make it longer by starting with more foundation single crochet stitches. If you want a shorter wingspan, just take out a row repeat!

Kit and PDF’s-

You can find the kit to make this shrug HERE! It includes all the yarn you need (in 5 different color options) plus the ad-free printed PDF pattern!

You can find the ad-free printable PDF pattern HERE on Etsy or HERE on Ravelry.

Is there a crochet stitch or technique you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to doing? For me, that was corner 2 corner crochet.

I always saw so many beautiful c2c blankets while scrolling through Pinterest and always thought to myself…”hmmm I need to give that a try.” Well, I finally did and I guess you can call me a c2c addict now!! I’m so excited to show you guys my Covered In Cats Afghan!

Pattern: Giant Granny Square cushion

When BeCozi sent me some of their super soft and cozy Chenille yarn, I knew I had to make something awesome with it! I know big chunky blankets are popular with this yarn but I wanted to do something a little bit different. I decided to go with a floor cushion for the girls to sit on (or who am I kidding…the dog to sleep on lol) but I didn’t want it to be basic and boring. I love granny squares so I knew I had to incorporate that into my design! I hope you guys enjoy the pattern.

Be sure to pin for later and tag me on Instagram so I can see your work!

Materials:

Notes:

  • Cushion is made in 2 panels and slip stitched together.
  • The front panel is a classic granny square. The back panel is double crochet rows.
  • The Ch 3 at the beginning of each round and row counts as 1 Dc.
  • The Ch 4 counts as 1 Dc and 1 Ch.
