The Sunset Bomber Crochet Pattern

My last pattern of the year is here! The Sunset Bomber is a fun make using bulky yarn with a beautiful outcome! I love when a pattern works up quickly and this one does just that! I wanted more of a jacket look for this design and am super happy how it turned out!

The Sunset Bomber is worked in separate panels from the bottom up. Now, you will be using 2 different sized hooks for this pattern so make sure you switch when you are supposed to! The smaller hook is used in the ribbing and the larger hook is used in the main body of all the panels.

The stitch repeat in this pattern is very simple. Just single crochet, Ch 1, Sk 1! Your single crochets will be worked in the single crochet from the row below and you will always ch 1 and Sk 1 over the Ch from the row below!

If you like this pattern then be sure to check out some of my other designs!

Description: Cozy up in the Sunset Bomber all winter long! It features a wide ribbing and warm pockets! This cute jacket works up quickly with the bulky yarn so you will be adding to your wardrobe in no time!

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked from the bottom up in separate panels and then sewn together.

  • You will use the 5.5mm hook for the ribbing and the 8.00mm hook for the main body of each panel.

  • Each Sc will be worked into the Sc from the row below. Each Ch 1 will be above the Ch 1 from the row below.

  • The Ch 1 within the stitch repeat counts as a St reflected in the St count.

Join Together:

Place your front and back panels together RS facing.

Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used my hook and slip stitched across). Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches.

Next, using the same joining process, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. It is helpful to use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.

Finally, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the cuffs to the underarm and down the side of the cardigan.

Trim:

Make sure your jacket is RS out. Using your 8mm hook, join yarn with a Sl St to the corner of the left front panel (right panel when worn). Ch 1, and work Sc stitches evenly up the side of the first panel, along the back neckline and back down the other side. I worked 1 St per row and 1 St into each St of the ribbing. Tie off when you reach the corner. Exact stitch count is not crucial here just try and work your stitches as evenly as possible.

Sew Pockets:

Finally, with your jacket RS out, place the pockets RS up on the front panels. Line the first row of the pocket so that it is flush with the top of the ribbing. Line the longer edge of the pocket so that it is flush with the edge of the front panel. Use a yarn needle and sew all the way around, leaving the decrease rows unworked for the opening. Repeat on second pocket.

Weave in all ends.
