The Woodlands Blanket Wrap Crochet Pattern

Time to wrap up and get extra cozy in The Woodlands Blanket Wrap crochet pattern! The Woodlands Blanket Wrap, is oversized and easy to make. I wanted to be able to wear a big ol’ blanket wrap around the house but still have my hands available to do things, like crochet! Haha!

This wrap is made in one piece. You’ll start on the bottom of the back side and work in rows up, split the neckline and work the first front side. Then you’ll go back and attach your yarn to the other side to make the second front panel. The pockets can easily be left out if you prefer not to have them. Simply continue with the normal stitch repeat.

You will be using an entire 2 skeins of Pound Of Love yarn from Lion Brand. If you make any adjustments to the wrap (like adding rows) you will need to get a third skein of yarn. I used the color Sugar Cookie for mine but there are soooo many cute colors to chose from. This yarn is also very soft and easy to work with. Even better, you have less ends to weave in because you only use 2 skeins! You can find the kit here, which includes all the yarn and a free copy of the pdf digital download of the pattern.

I’m using the “crosshatch” stitch for this design which looks almost identical to C2C but you work it up in regular rows instead! I’ve recently heard people call it the “drunken granny” or “crazy granny” stitch, so I assume it’s one of those stitches that has several different names! Doesn’t matter what name you call it, it’s super fun to crochet!

Notes:

  • This wrap is made all in one piece, starting at the bottom of the back panel, through the front panels. The pocket panels are made separately.

  • The St count at the end of the row is represented by “squares”. Each square consists of [1 sc, Ch 3, 3 Dc]. Each row will start with Ch 3, 2 Dc and end with 1 Sc but these are not listed in the St count.

  • The Ch 3 at the start of each row counts as 1 Dc.

  • If you don’t want pockets, simply skip the pocket hole instructions and continue with the Row 2 repeat.

  • This pattern uses a full 2 skeins of pound of love. You will have just a small amount of yarn leftover. Be aware, if you make any adjustments that require more yarn, you will need more than the yardage listed above.

  • Your wrap will stretch a few more inches with the weight of being worn.

Rows 3-18: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing all 4 sides to your wrap.

Add Trim-

With RS facing up, join yarn to outside corner of the front panel of the cape with a Sl St. Ch 1, Sc evenly up the side, to end. Fasten off. With RS still facing up, join yarn to outside corner of the back panel of the cape with a Sl St. Ch 1, Sc evenly down the side, to end. Fasten off.

With piece RS facing up, join yarn to inner corner of the other front panel with a Sl St. Ch 1, Sc evenly up the inner side of the front panel, along the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel. Fasten off. Exact stitch count is not crucial in the trim, however you want to keep your stitches evenly spaced as you go. The red lines on the graph below indicate where to place your trim.

Sew Pockets-

Steam block your wrap and pocket panels to the measurements listed above.

Take your pocket panel and place it on the WS (inside) of your work on the front panel with the RS facing up. Line Row 1 of the pocket panel up with Row 84 of the front panel. I recommend pinning your pocket in place before you begin sewing. Use your needle and yarn tail to sew all 4 side of the pocket panel to your front panel. Make sure you don’t stick your needle all the way through to the front so that the seam is not visible on the outside. Don’t tug your stitches too tight. Finally, Seam approximately 1.5” in on both sides of the front opening of the pocket hole. This part is optional but will help keep your pocket from opening too wide.

Sew Sides-

Fold your wrap together RS facing. Place it so that the back panel hangs down about 6” further than the front panels. Next, measure from the bottom of the back panel up the side about 16” (place SM) and 18” (place SM). Seam the length between the 2 SMs together to join. You can use your needle and sew it or use your hook and Sl St them together. Repeat on other side. The blue lines in the graph below indicate where you will be sewing.

Fasten off and weave in any remaining ends.
