Crochet Pattern: The Charlie Tank

I’m super excited to release this pattern and check another wip off of my list! I wanted to make a simple tank top but also didn’t want it to be too boring. You’ll be working through the back loops only throughout the pattern to give it a little flair! I used Lion Brand Merino Silk Cotton for this pattern and really liked it. It’s considered a weight of (1) but I honestly think it passes as more of a Sport/Dk (2 or 3). You should be able to meet gauge with a heavier weight yarn, so be sure to check!

If you make one, tag me on Instagram so I can share your work! 🙂

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written as follows XS(S,M,L,XL,2X,3X). I recommend printing and highlighting your size to avoid mistakes.

  • Pattern is worked in 2 separate panels and seamed together.

  • You will be working in the BLO throughout the pattern.

  • Pattern is written in more of a “cropped” length. Add rows where indicated for a longer fitting top.

  • The pattern rows repeat- *Sc row, Sc row, Dc row* throughout the pattern.

Opposite Strap-

Count 28(30,34,36,40,42,46) stitches in towards center of your panel at Row 36(39,42,45,48,51,54) of the unworked side. Join yarn with a Sl St.

Repeat the process in Rows 37(40,43,46,49,52,55)- 59(62,65,70,75,78,84). Note- the rows and stitch counts stay the same but your decreases for the neckline and arm opening will be on the opposite side or “flipped.” Essentially, you will be reading the rows “backwards.”

Tie off.

Row 53(56,59,62,65,68,71): Repeat Row 47(50,53,56,59,62,65) Turn. (5(7,11,13,17,19,23 Sc)

Row 54(57,60,63,66,69,72): Repeat Row 48(51,54,57,60,63,66) Turn. (4(6,10,12,16,18,22 Dc)

Repeat Rows 55(58,61,64,67,70,73)-59(62,65,70,75,78,84) of the front panel. Tie off, leaving a long tail for seaming.

Opposite Strap-

Count 12(14,17,19,23,25,29) stitches in towards center of your panel at Row 45(48,51,54,57,60,63) of the unworked side. Join yarn with a Sl St.

Repeat the process in rows 46(49,52,55,58,61,64)-59(62,65,70,75,78,84). Note- the rows and stitch counts stay the same but your decreases for the neckline and arm opening will be on the opposite side or “flipped.” Essentially, you will be reading the rows “backwards.”

Tie off.

Seaming-

Place the front and back panel’s together, correct sides facing. Seam the last rows of your straps together using the yarn tail. I like to use my hook and Sl St the rows together. At this point, I would try the top on to check the fit of the straps. Add more or less rows to the straps now if they need adjusting.

Next, Seam the sides of your shirt together using the yarn tail. Work from the bottom up and stop seaming once you hit the decrease row of the arm opening. Repeat on the opposite side.

Tie off.

Trim-

Turn your work correct side out so that the seams are now on the inside. Join yarn with a Sl St to any St of the neckline (I like to join on the back). Ch 1. Work 1 Sc in each St around the neckline. Join to the first St and tie off.

Repeat the same process around both arm openings.

Repeat the same process around the waist.

Tie off and weave in all ends.
