Glacier Mist Cardigan Crochet Pattern

The Glacier Mist Cardigan Crochet Pattern

I fell in love with the colors in this Mandala String yarn. I’ve used it in the past for a blanket called The Fairy Floss Throw. I always imagined how pretty it would be worked up into a cardigan so I had to give it a shot! The Glacier Mist Cardigan crochet pattern is the result!

There is a first for everything and i’m pretty sure this was my first time using a super fine (1) weight yarn for a long sleeve cardigan. It actually worked up much quicker than anticipated due to the mesh stitches. So try not to let the super fine weight intimidate you! If you need to grab the yarn before you start, be sure to check out the Lion Brand kit for the best deal!

If you are a bit newer to garments or just need a visual, be sure to check out my video tutorial where I walk you through the pattern!

I used a combination of filet mesh stitches and tiny little shells which are just groups of 5 dc together. I was going for an ombre effect, working a series of 1, than 3, than 5 shells at a time throughout the panel. You can easily add length to your cardigan by adding in 5 rows at a time, continuing with the panel repeat. Same with the sleeves!

The pockets are of course optional but I love the look of them with this design. If you prefer to be pocket free just skip right over those instructions and move onto the trim!

I hope you guys enjoy this cardigan! If you liked the Glacier Mist Cardigan crochet pattern than be sure to check out some of my other ones here!

Notes:

  • When indicated to work into a Ch-1 Sp, you can work into the Sp and not the actual St. When indicated to work into a St and it is the Ch-3 Sp of the V-St, you will want to work it into the actual Ch St itself.

  • The starting Ch-4 counts as 1 Dc + 1 Ch.

  • The Starting Ch 3 counts as 1 Dc.

  • The Ch’s within the row go towards your overall St count.

  • If you prefer no pockets just skip over the instructions and move onto the trim.

  • You can add length to your cardigan by adding the 5 row repeats to your back and front panels before fastening off.

  • Adjust the length of your sleeves by adding or removing rows in multiples of 5 before you begin the final 3 rows of the “cuff”.

Front Panel (make 2)-

Row 1: 43(43, 57, 57, 71, 71, 85) Fsc, turn. (43(43, 57, 57, 71, 71, 85) Sc) Alternatively, you can Ch 1 more than the number listed above, work 1 Sc into the second Ch from the hook and across for the same St count.

Rows 2-61(61, 61, 66, 66, 71, 71): Repeat Back Panel instructions.

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing last row to your back panel.

Sleeves (make 2)-

Row 1: 71(71, 85, 99, 99, 113, 113) Fsc, turn. (71(71, 85, 99, 99, 113, 113) Sc) Alternatively, you can Ch 1 more than the number listed above, work 1 Sc into the second Ch from the hook and across for the same St count.

The wider the front/back panels are, the shorter the sleeve needs to be because they join further down the bicep. That’s why the smaller sizes have more rows than larger. Feel free to adjust the length of your sleeves here by adding and removing rows in multiples of 5.

Row 47(47, 47, 42, 42, 37, 37): Ch 1, 1 Sc in each St across, turn. (71(71, 85, 99, 99, 113, 113) Sc)

Do not turn or fasten off after last row made. Ch 1, work Sc Sts evenly down the sides of the rows until you reach the corner of Row 8. Ch 1, turn and work 1 Sc in each St back up. Fasten off.

Exact St count is not crucial here, just try to keep your Sts even as you go working about 2-3 Sc into the end of each row.

Assemble Panels:

Block your panels to the measurements listed above. I recommend a steam block.

Place your front and back panels together RS facing.
Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panels to the back panel at the shoulders (I used a needle and did the mattress stitch across). Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches.
Next, using the same joining process as above, we will be attaching the sleeves to the cardigan. Make sure the center of the sleeve is aligned

with the shoulder seam. Be sure to check that your sleeves are even on both the front and back panel as you go. It is helpful to use SM’s here to keep your sleeve in place as you join.
Finally, fold your cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other, RS facing. Seam from the cuffs to the underarm and down the side of the cardigan.

Add Pockets and Trim:

With your cardigan RS out, place your “Right Pocket” panel on top of your right front panel, RS facing up. Make sure your pocket is lined up evenly. You will want to use SMs here to keep it in place. Pin the left pocket panel as well. Join yarn with a Sl St to the bottom corner, working through both the corner St of the pocket and the front panel.

Row 1: Ch 1, Sc evenly up the side of the front panel being sure to work through the pocket panel as well. Continue working Sc Sts along the back neckline and down the side of the second front panel and pocket until you reach the corner, turn. Note- St count is not crucial here, work about 2 Sc into the end of each row.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 Dc), 1 Dc in each St across, turn.

Row 3: Repeat Row 2.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as 1 Dc), *1 Fpdc, 1 Bpdc*, repeat from * to * across, 1 Dc in last St (top of the Ch 3), turn.

Row 5: Repeat Row 2.

When you complete Row 5, do not turn. Ch 1, work Sc Sts evenly across the bottom of your cardigan. When you get to the second corner, fasten off.

Final Touches:

Lastly, we need to finish sewing the pockets to the front panels. Seam the last row of the pocket and the remaining side of the pocket to the front panel. Be sure to leave the decrease rows un-sewn for the pocket opening. Repeat with the second pocket. Weave in any remaining ends.
