The Pop Of Love Beanie

I’m sure you have already heard about Hat Not Hate but if not, let me tell ya about it! Hat Not Hate is an anti-bullying campaign by Lion Brand! I’m sure we’ve all experienced being bullied at some point growing up. It’s not fun at all and can be to an extreme amount for some kids! Hat Not Hate is a “craftivist” movement to actively eradicate bullying!

So what do you do? Make a blue hat that fits head sizes 16-20″ in circumference (ages 5-18) and donate it to Lion Brand! October is national bullying prevention month. The hats that are donated will be distributed to kids in school across the country! A total of 58,248 hats have been made and donated so far!! Let’s get that number even higher!

Check out the Hat Not Hate website for all the info you need on where and how to donate a hat!

I designed a crochet pattern- The Pop Of Love Beanie for Hat Not Hate! This beanie is really quick and fun to work up. The circumference is about 18″ which fits the Hat Not Hat criteria for donation! I used popcorn stitches in the pattern which are really fun to make and give it a cute texture. I also designed the Be Kind Beanie a couple years ago which is also available on my blog!

Description:

The Pop Of Love Beanie is available as part of the Hat Not Hate campaign! It’s a quick make that uses less than 1 skein of yarn. It’s worked from the bottom up in the round. The popcorn stitches give it a fun texture.

Materials:

  • Worsted (4) Weight Yarn, Pattern uses Lion Brand Vannas Choice in Dusty Blue- 1 Skein or 125 yards

  • J/6mm Crochet Hook

  • Yarn Needle

  • Pompom (optional)

Notes:

  • The Pop Of Love Beanie is worked from the bottom up. You start at the ribbing working in rows. Then you will join the first and last row to form a circle. Next, you will work the main body of the hat in turned rounds.

  • This pattern fits the average child’s head. You can easily make it bigger or smaller by adding or taking away rows in the ribbing in multiples of 6. You can make your hat longer by adding rounds before you start the decrease rounds.

  • This beanie fits heads ranging from 16-20” in circumference which meets the Hat Not Hate requirements for beanie donations!

Finish Up-

Tie off, leaving a long tail to sew the top of hat shut. With a needle, weave your tail of yarn from front to back into the FLO of each Sc St around. Pull tight to close. Weave your needle back and fourth a few times to secure. You can also use this same tail of yarn to sew a pompom to the top of your beanie.

Check out all 3 of my girls wearing the same beanie! Charlie is 3, Penny is 5 and Evie is 8! I think it fits great on all of them. It even fits me with a less slouchy look!
