I’m back again with another summer design! This time I made a square neck style tank top with Coboo yarn called The Twist Of Summer Tank! This design is definitely beginner friendly and a very easy make. I used the Lemon Peel stitch to work up the main body of this top. I love the beautiful texture this stitch creates, it’s one of my all time favorites! You might recognize it from my Harvest Pullover!
The Twist Of Summer Tank is worked up in 2 panels from the bottom up. You will create the ribbing first and then rotate to work the main body. Each panel is exactly the same. Next we will sew the panels together, add a quick trim and then crochet the straps!
It’s also super customizable. You can easily add some rows to make it a longer length top or remove rows for a more cropped look! Just adjust the length before tying off your panels.
This beginner friendly square-neck tank top can be worked up in no time! It uses the lemon peel stitch to create a beautiful texture. Pair it with high waisted jean shorts or even layer it under a cardigan in the cooler weather!
Rows 2-56(64, 72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120): Ch 1, 1 Sc in first St, 1 Sc (BLO) in next 8 Sts, 1 Sc in final St, turn. (10 Sc)
Do not turn after final row. You will now start the main body of the panel. You will be working Row 1 into the ends of the rows along the top of the ribbing.
Row 1 [RS]: Ch 1, 1 Sc into the end of the first row, 1 Dc into the end of the next row, *1 Sc, 1 Dc* repeat from * to * across the length of the ribbing, turn. 56(64, 72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120) Sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, *1 Sc, 1 Dc* repeat from * to * across, turn.
If you want to adjust the length of your top add or remove rows here before cutting yarn.
Tie off, leave a long tail on both panels for seaming down the side.
Join Panels-
Place both panels together, RS facing. Use your yarn tail and hook to Sl St down the first side of your tank top. Be sure your rows are lined up correctly and that you are working your hook through both panels. Sl St from the last row down to the bottom of the ribbing. Tie off and repeat on other side. You can also use a needle and your preferred stitching method to join.
Trim-
At the top of your tank top, join yarn to the first St directly to the left of one of the side seams with a Sl St.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 1 Sc into the same St and each St around, join to the first Sc with a Sl St. (112(128, 144, 160, 176, 192, 208, 224, 240) Sc)
Round 2: Ch 1, *Fpsc, Bpsc*, repeat from * to * around, Sl St to first Sc made.
Tie off.
Straps-
Lay your top in front of you, RS out with the seam from the “Trim” round on the right hand side. Starting at the seam on the right, count 11(14, 18, 21, 25, 26, 30, 33, 36) Sts in towards center of shirt and place your first SM into that St (11th, 14th, 18th etc..) Count over 5(5, 5, 5, 5, 7, 7, 7, 7) more Sts and place a second SM. These 6(6, 6, 6, 6, 8, 8, 8, 8) Sts is where your first strap will be. Count 25(27, 27, 29, 29, 31, 31, 33, 35) more Sts and place a 3rd SM. Count 5(5, 5, 5, 5, 7, 7, 7, 7) more Sts and place a 4th SM. This is where your 2nd Strap will be. You should have 24(26, 26, 28, 28, 30, 30, 32, 34) unworked Sts at the neckline in between the 2nd and 3rd SM. Repeat the same thing on the opposite panel and place all 4 SMs. Your SMs should be evenly lined up. Note: you can easily adjust the placement of your straps if you want them closer or further apart. Just adjust the SMs until you are satisfied.
Join yarn with a Sl St to the same St you placed the first SM.
You can adjust your strap length here by adding or removing rows. Now we are going to Sl St to join the strap on the opposite panel. Sl St the last row of the strap to the 6(6, 6, 6, 6, 8, 8, 8, 8) Sts marked with the SM on the other side. Tie off. Join yarn to the 3rd SM placed and repeat the same process.
Weave in all ends.
I hope you guys love the Twist Of Summer Tank as much as I do! Be sure to tag me on social media if you make one so I can share your work! If you liked this top be sure to check out my other ones here!
