The Wisteria Sweater Crochet Pattern

I’m so excited to finally release The Wisteria Sweater! I finished this one several weeks ago and am so happy to get it out in the world! You can find the full written pattern below, along with links to the Lion Brand kit, video tutorial and printable PDF!

The front and back panels of The Wisteria Sweater are worked from the bottom up. Then, you will seam the sides and shoulders before attaching and working the sleeves top down. For a longer top, add more rows in multiples of 4 before you begin the underarm shaping. For longer or shorter sleeves, just add or remove more rounds before beginning the cuff! The great part about the sleeves being worked top down is you can try it on and adjust the sleeves before fastening off!

I used Lion Brand Re-spun yarn in the bonus bundle, color “blush”. You can find The Wisteria Sweater as a kit on the Lion Brand website, which comes with all the yarn needed to make your sweater plus a free copy of the ad-free printable PDF! You can also customize your yarn color.

This is more of an intermediate level sweater. So if you are a beginner I would get a few more finished projects under your belt before attempting! Be sure to pay close attention to the sizes as you go. Depending on your size you might be doing a different row repeat than another size. This is also a very form fitting sweater with no positive ease, so I would not recommend sizing down.

I do have a full video tutorial available for The Wisteria Sweater. If you get stuck or need a little extra help please check it out! I do my very best to include info that you might need! Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more free videos and content! Thank you so much for the support!

The intricate texture adds a touch of elegance to the design. Perfect for those seeking a satisfying challenge, this pattern strikes a balance between sophistication and creativity.

Notes:

  • The main body of the sweater is worked from the bottom up. The sleeves are worked top down.

  • The Ch 1 does not count as a St.

  • The Ch 2 does not count as a St.

  • I highly recommend placing a stitch marker into the first St made of each turned sleeve round and move it up as you go. This way you know exactly where to Sl St to join and where your round begins and ends.

  • You can add or remove rounds to the sleeve (just before the cuff) to lengthen or shorten sleeves to your needs.

  • Repeat Rows 2-5 to add length to your sweater if desired, before you begin the underarm shaping. Take into account these adjustments will require more yarn than what is listed.

  • Take note that some sizes will be working a different row repeat than other sizes for certain rows/rounds.

  • The numbers in parenthesis at the start of the row are the row counts for all sizes. The numbers in parenthesis at the end of the row are the stitch counts for all sizes. The numbers in parenthesis within the rows are instructions for all sizes.

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing last row to the back panel.

Join Front and Back Panel-

Block your panels to the measurements listed above. I prefer to steam block mine but you can use the method of your choice.

Place your front and back panels together, RS facing. Using your preferred seaming method attach the front panel to the back panel at the shoulders. You can use your hook and Sl St across or use a needle and your preferred sewing method. Be sure your panels are aligned and that you aren’t bunching or skipping stitches.

Next, using the same method as above, we will be sewing the sides of the sweater. Join yarn at the bottom of the ribbing, sew up the side and stop at the under arm shaping. Repeat on other side.

On your last Row 3 repeat you will only Sl St once to the last sleeve round to join.

Sew first and last row of cuff together. You can either fasten off and use a needle to sew together, or, Sl St them to join. With the RS of the cuff facing, I used my hook and worked 5 Sl Sts across joining the first and last row. Fasten off and repeat sleeve and cuff on other side. This time, with your sweater RS down, you will be joining your yarn to the end of Row 19 on the back panel for Row 1 of the sleeve.

Neckline-

With your sweater RS out, join yarn with a Sl St to any St at the neckline. I like to join next to one of the shoulder seams. Ch 1, 1 Sc in same St as join, continue working Sc Sts evenly around. Sl St to first Sc to join. Note- exact St count is not crucial here, just try to keep Sts evenly placed.

Finishing Up-

Finally, we need to sew the holes at the underarm closed. With your sweater WS out, sandwich the unworked Sts of the underarm to the ends of the unworked rows of the sleeve. Sew a straight line across to close. Repeat on other side and weave in any remaining ends.
